Language Friends Program

Participating in the Language Friends Programme Keelesõber gives language learners the opportunity to practise their Estonian by talking to a mentor who is a native Estonian speaker or speaks Estonian as well as their first language.

The programme is for you if you

  • have reached level B1 or higher in your Estonian language studies. This means that you can express yourself on everyday topics that are important to you (for descriptions of B1, B2, C1, and C2 levels, follow this link)
  • are ready to talk to your mentor in Estonian on topics of mutual interest;
  • can use for conversation a communication channel that suits both of you, e.g. phone, Zoom, Messenger, etc.;
  • are available for conversations between February 14 and May 14;
  • are ready to agree on whether you will be talking once a week or more often;
  • are of legal age and are participating voluntarily.

If it turns out that your language level or age does not meet the conditions of the program, we may suggest other solutions.

Registration for this season is closed. This year, 943 pairs of language friends will participate: https://integratsioon.ee/en/everyone-who-want-practise-estonian-can-reg…. The programme team will start bringing together mentors and learners on Valentine’s Day, 14 February. Language friends can communicate with each other until 14 May.

We will start new season of the Language Friends programme in January 2026. In the meantime, you are welcome to practice Estonian using for free other opportunities: https://www.integratsioon.ee/kalender.
